SHAKIRA & BURNA BOY RELEASE OFFICIAL WORLD CUP ANTHEM ‘DAI DAI’

FIFA WORLD CUP 2026  ·  NEWS  ·  MAY 14, 2026

The Official Song Is Here

The countdown to the biggest sporting event on the planet just got a soundtrack. On May 14, 2026, FIFA unveiled the official anthem of the 2026 World Cup: "Dai Dai", performed by Colombian superstar Shakira and Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy. The nearly four-minute track fuses Afrobeats, dance-pop, reggaetón and world beats into one explosive global anthem — a fitting sound for a tournament played across three continents’ worth of cultures.

What Does "Dai Dai" Mean?

Dai dai is an Italian expression meaning "come on" or "go, go!" — a universal call to action that needs no translation on a football pitch. The multilingual chorus layers the phrase across multiple languages: "Dai dai, Ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!" — capturing the tournament’s truly global character. The lyrics are a love letter to the game itself, shouting out legends including Pelé, Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.

🎵 Teaser debuted at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracaná stadium. Full track released globally on May 14, 2026 on all major streaming platforms.

Shakira’s World Cup Legacy

This is Shakira’s second official World Cup anthem. Her 2010 South Africa anthem "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" remains one of the best-selling World Cup songs in history and one of the most-watched YouTube videos of all time. She also performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2006 and 2014 tournaments. For 2026, FIFA confirmed Shakira will headline the halftime show at the World Cup Final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey.

A Cross-Continental Collaboration

The choice of Burna Boy — one of Africa’s biggest musical exports and a pioneer of the Afrofusion genre — reflects the tournament’s inclusive spirit. With 48 teams representing six confederations and fans traveling from every corner of the globe, pairing Latin America’s most iconic female artist with Africa’s biggest star feels exactly right. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the song as capturing "the energy, passion and global spirit that will define the greatest show on earth."

🆕 FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Royalties from "Dai Dai" will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, investing in education programs for young people around the world. The World Cup has always been about more than football — and this time the music will help fund the next generation.
